What Are the Preparations for Newborn Photography?

Parents are probably nervous about getting ready for their labor, but if you’ve already booked, then it’s also important to get busy to know what to prepare next! Newborn photography marks the exciting new small steps your little one is making out of her mom!

What should you, as a parent, prepare for the session with the newborn photographer? Here’s a comprehensive guide to a smooth and enjoyable photography time!

Stock up on a healthy diet

After your delivery, it’s best that you really focus on getting right back on your foot. Healthy is the real key to really enjoy your next couple of days. With the new change (and responsibility!), you’ll have to quickly adjust and prepare the next steps for the schedule!

5-7 days

You have roughly a week time to prepare for your newborn photography. When you’re booking with your newborn photographer remember this rule. This is the best time to get yourself prepared and still have the baby in a newborn state.

Call and clarify the schedule

After the labor, be sure to contact the photographer of the news and quickly set up a schedule. As said before, 5-7 days after your delivery is the best time to have newborn pictures taken. But don’t be pressured if you don’t think you cannot make it until 10 days later. As long as your photographer allows it, 10 days afterward is still a good enough age to have newborn pictures taken.

Things to bring

Remember to bring baby needs to the set of the equipment for you to breastfeed (you don’t have to if you feed before the photography session starts). You should also need to bring spare clothes to change into when you go home. If you’re bringing along baby’s older siblings, don’t forget to have them take their toys or homework to spend their time there.

If your husband can come along, that’d be great. But if he can’t, bring a friend, because it’s going to be a very long day.

Read up safety measures

There are several safety measures that photographers need to abide by. For example, newborns shouldn’t be let to have their head supported by their tiny hands. Their limbs aren’t strong enough to support anything, yet.

The room temperature has to be regulated, too. Since the baby is often undressed, it has to be warmer than usual to keep the baby healthy and comfortable. Don’t be reluctant to inform your photographer on this fact and sound your concern.

You should also watch out the use of various props. Hanging bags are one of the riskiest ways to have newborn pictures taken. Is your photographer certified and experienced in taking a picture with such props? Ask for the proof whenever you don’t feel safe or unsure about it.

Stay relax

It’s going to be quite a long session, so just relax. Enjoy the session and don’t let the long hours stress you out. Rest and let your photographer does his job.

It’s important to be able to believe in the skills of your newborn photographer. Fussing over things like how the baby should look like isn’t your job. You can, however, request to have the baby placed in certain positions, but don’t expect that it can’t be forced if your baby cannot stay in that pose.
